Lyon Day2 - Super Tired!

Our second day in Lyon was a tired one. We woke up early in the morning and set off to look for breakfast in town. We were so early that most of the restaurants were not open and we have to walk around waiting for the first one to open and rushed in for breakfast. And the first meal we had was from Subway! Yummy! 

IT was too early for me to post. I was so tired. Mind was still on the hotel bed.

We rushed into Subway the moment it hanged the word "Open".

After the meal, we then walked around the city and planned our day by visiting the Museum Gadela. Since the museum forbids us from taking any picture, it was a pity because there were so many interesting history about Lyon. We even saw the Napoleon war costume inside the Museum. By the time we finished walking, our feet were aching again and we decided to sit down at a cafe to enjoy a cup of warm coffee. And my feet was aching so much that i grabbed the opportunity to buy myself a pair of new shoes! Hehe at least i got to shop a bit! Somehow we wanted to visit the Roman Ruins but we lost our way. So we have to ask the cafe owner and he was so kind that we went around asking others for direction before coming back to us. I think that is because he wasnt sure himself. What amazed me is that before i cam i heard so much about French and their snobbishness and arrogance but this trip has proven me wrong. So sorry!

After that we rushed ourselves to the Tourism Centre again to join the free day tour that will take us through the history of Lyon city by foot again! Thank goodness for my new pair of shoes and socks! That really saved my day. We walked through the 800 years old tunnel that connect all the buildings in old Lyon. The tunnel is still dark and smelly and that was after the cleaned up done by the local government. I am sure 800 years ago it was lighted only by candles and it must be really dark and smelly and frightening as well! After that we were brought to the St. John Cathedral to see the 1 thousand years old clock that was built by an unknown master. The clock is still working now and it is precise to the seconds! The most interesting part is we could still see the current calendar and all the holidays such as Easter and Good Friday are all still listed on the clock. According to the tour guide, the clock has never failed to pin point the month and day of those holidays precisely! How amazing! 

This windows are 800 years old. It was saved because it was taken down and safe kept before the world war.

The 1 thousand years old clock will chime at 12pm, 2pm and 3pm only each day. This is set to keep the clock from over working.

Can you see year 2007? This part of the clock is changeable every 55 years to keep it updated.

It will be eerie if i was to walk alone.

Half way through the trip, we decided to break away and took on our own trip. We then took the tram up to the hill to visit the Roman Ruins Museum. It was such a big museums and with so many ruins and magnificent Roman histories that we felt overloaded with information! Again we were forbidden to take any pictures in the museum. What a pity! But it was well worth it! 

And the cost of a 30 second ride to the hill cost us 2 USD each.

After that we proceed by foot to the St. Paul's Cathedral where there was a gold pleated Virgin Mary standing at the top of the Cathedral. The view from the top of Lyon City was really beautiful and too bad the lights were not on by the time we were there. We were told that the view will be breathless. Anyway after a short stop snapping pictures, we decided to visit the souvenir shop. I managed to buy a little standing figure of my favourite book - The litte Prince! This is one of the book that i can read and read again. And each time when i read the book again, i could extract new meanings and learnings from the book. After that, we depart the hill and decided to go back to the new Lyon for dinner.

The river which we had our cruise yesterday.... ohh...

We had dinner at a corner shop along a busy street. It is a fine dining restaurant but not many was having their dinner but mostly was just sitting down for a drink before they go back for dinner. But the weather was excellent for outdoor dinning because it was chilly and breezy. Dinner was not too bad but it was costly! It came to about 120 USD just for a simple starter for two and a main course. By the time we paid, we felt so broke! Since it was close to 8pm after dinner, we decided to just buy some sandwiches and water and return back to the hotel. The next day will be an early one! We have to walk up by 530 in the morning in order to catch our flight to Paris. I was excited! Since i was so tired after the 2 days walking, i think i fell asleep the moment i hit my bed.... Paris here i come!

First Night in Lyon

Although initially we decided to start our Lyon trip with shopping, we have however opted to visit the miniature gallery in the old part of Lyon. So with a map in our hand and the Lyon Day card with us, we set off by foot to walk over the bridge that connects the old and new part of Lyon. The weather in Lyon is way chiller than in Oran. I was shivering when i walked whenever the breeze came blowing into me. The view from the bridge was magnificent as well because of its serenity and with the music from the violin played by a local, it was like a scene from a movie.

The walk to the Miniature Gallery took us about 15 mins. The cost to enter was 8 Euro but with the card we just had to show the staff the card and she then took down our card no to register and viola, we were in the gallery. The gallery is not entirely a miniature gallery but was combined with some theater things. It is in the old part of Lyon that the movie "Parfume" was filmed hence the gallery has dedicated spaces and set up some scenes from the movie as exhibition. The was figures look very human like and the attentions to details were amazing. Every little item was carefully placed and made to represent real life. And then we also saw figures from Aliens and Predators and one of the classic movie Gremlines, it was so cute that i will definitely buy a soft toy of it if it is on sale.

After that we proceed to look at the miniatures. Some of the miniatures were just the size of a 50 cent coin but the details in it was awesome! Every single detail such as the smile, the brow or even wrinkles were produced! We were totally blew over by the master! He even did some paper cuttings which were just the size of match box but then it was so carefully cut that i think it had took him a long time. At least i know i will never be able to to it. And by the time i managed to cut one perhaps, i might have grown so old and might have blinded myself from the strains!

By the time we finished walking the museum, we were so tired and our feet were aching. So we walked over the bridge again to get into the boat ride along the river which was again free because of the city card. It was a good 1 hour boat ride that gave us the time needed to rejuvenate ourselves and look at the historical buildings without needing to walk. What i love most about the ride is the opportunity to snap great pictures and enjoy the view that we could not have in KL. Just imagine boating along the Klang river! Hahahah. And there were swans in the river as well. What about KL? Ducks maybe?

Anyway after the ride it was time for dinner and we walked to the old part of Lyon again to visit one of the restaurant that was recommended by the Hilton Concierge. It was lovely and very good! The price was rather reasonable as well. A course with starter, main dish, desert and coffee was only Euro 10 but we were so stuffed after the main course that we have to take away the deserts. I would say that this meal was the best one for our whole trip to Lyon and Paris.

After dinner we have to walk back to the new Lyon again to catch the bus. By that time my feet was having blisters already and it was a nightmare for me. What worse was that we took a wrong turn and ended up having to walk for 30 mins just to get to the bus stop. My poor feet!
