Black Swan

I am reading a book titled "Black Swan" by Nassim Taleb. Taleb started off telling us a story that how before a black swan was seen in Australia some decades ago, everyone in the world assumes that swans are white. When a black swan was seen, it was something unpredicted, it was a phenomenon. This is what Taleb is trying to convey to us through his book. We human has been programmed to learn to rationalize everything, from why and how things happened, to why and how to overcome your emotions. We tend not to accept that sometime, things will just happened unpredicted and when it did happened, we will try to use the Platotism technique to group facts and details into little categories that we deem make sense and then we came to realise that how these facts and details have been shouting in our faces telling us what will be happening. Of course, we are trained and educated to ignore them and when things happened, we could not understand why.

The "Black Swan" phenomenon happened to me this morning, and a friend of mine as well. Mine was not so much related to me but to a dear friend. I was just chatting with him few weeks ago and he mentioned to me that how he will be traveling a bit and how he will just let things be when it comes to the love department. Then this morning, i saw him happily and proudly announcing that he is "officially in love" in his FB! Isnt that great? See things happened when you least expected it and sometimes it happened with an escalated speed that no one can catch up with the details. This is a great news! A great start to August.

On the other hand, my friend who was in love with a guy that comes and goes into her life all the time, finally found someone as well, but it is not her. Just when she was still debating with herself if she should still wait for him and was still missing him all the time, he had already found someone new. She didnt know how to react. She said things happened so fast that one month ago he was still calling her his Bao Bei and darling and they msn all the time. Then they took a down turn and the last 2 weeks was like a silent war. But little did she knows that it only takes 2 weeks for him to find someone new, someone that he put as "everything feels so right". Is she angry? Is she heartbroken? She said she is more of in shock.

Oh poor thing. Give it sometime and you will feel better.
