Algeria own FIFA Championship!

Now everyone knows that the Fifa World Cup 2010 is just around the corner and it is having in South Africa. When we first thought of working in Algeria, we dreamt about going over to watch any of the matches. It turned out that Algeria is just too far away and it is ridiculously difficult and chaotic to travel in this country. So i guess we have to resume to watching the matches on the telly.

Last night there was a very important match for the Algerian. They were playing against Zombia and they have to win the match in order to secure a safe position to be qualified. So by 9pm, the streets in Oran were quiet. Everyone was at home waiting for the match to start. What's more the match was held in some part of Algeria which is their home ground, and hence a simple qualifying match had turned itself into one of the most important one ever! Algerians were all hoping and wishing that they will win the match because the last time they were qualified, it was a decade ago. So out of curiosity and wanted to show blend ourselves as part of Algerian, we piously sat in front of the telly as well waiting for the match to start. I am not a soccer fan and i do not know much about the game but the first half of the game was boring! The stadium was filled with Algerian fans all carrying their flag or dressed in green and white. But the team played badly. They were like disoriented and not knowing what they were doing. Most of the time they were being attacked and it was mere lucky that the ball didnt hit the goal. Anyway after the first half, we retired to watching my chinese drama and KC playing his Dota. Then we heard shoutings and cheering coming from other houses around us. Kids suddenly came out into the street and started playing with a football and then there were music lasted for about 10 minutes before it died off again. Well that's a very obvious signal that the Algerian must have scored!

At the end of the 10 minutes before the game ends, i turned off the telly and viola, the score was Algeria 1, Zambia 0. So i waited and watched the game until it ended because i wanted to see how the nation and fans will react. Everyone was hugging everyone else! Everyone was cheering! Everyone was flagging their flags and some were seen crying! It is as though they have won the FIFA World Cup 2010! That was funny! Then the street began to be merry again. Algerians were driving their cars around with flags on the car and blasting loud music. There were honking around and people were shouting when they passed by. It was past midnight when all these happened but no one seemed to care! I can feel how happy there are. It must have meant so much to them. All these lasted until about 3am before everything died down again. Well done Algeria and let's hope they can go a longer way in FIFA 2010!
