Of Connectors, Mavens, Salespeople and Stickiness.

I woke up at 2pm today and is still feeling sleepy. I think i slept too late and slept too much. And now i am just sipping my so very bitter coffee, sitting in front of my Mac, trying to update myself by going into all the familiar sites that i visit everyday. Was watching movies on the Mac and more movies on the TV the whole yesterday until i thought i almost blend myself with the couch.

And i think of myself turning into a potato! Hahah i think i am not in the right frame of mind now for being too bored. Anyway i was watching so much tv yesterday that eventually i felt numbed. So i freshen myself with a bath and was sitting at the couch again wondering what to do next. Then i just simply picked up the booked where i left reading the epilogue. This time around, i am reading the squeal written by Malcom Gladwell again, titled "The Tipping Point".

The Tipping Point is thus far also a very interesting and mind blowing book. Gladwell has again written a page tuner that it will makes it very difficult for the reader to put the book down. The last time when i read his book "Blink" i was fascinated by the in-depth of his researches and how he managed to turn all those boring data into quirky and witty words that will not only make sense to the readers, but at the same time stick with the readers for a long time. And the best thing i took out of the book is that sometimes, believing in my instinct decision at the blink of my eyes will be the best thing to do. The Tipping Point is too written in the same manner that has brought me into a wonderful roller coaster ride that is very enjoyable. Read the book and by the time you stop at chapter 3, you would so much insights of the Hush Puppies epidemic, Sesame Street, Blue's Clues, Coke, Pepsi and many more. What is Tipping Point all about? It is simply a research done looking into why sometimes, something out of no way managed to erupt itself and turned itself into the biggest episode every in the history of its nature. I sometimes do not understand how the current H1N1 can turned itself into an epidemic in such a short time. Read the book and you will understand the theory behind the epidemic.

Sesame Street for example, which kid didnt grow up watching it and which kid didnt have a favorite character from Sesame Street? I personally love Cookie Monster! I thought this guy is clumsy and ate too much but that is why it has made him so adorable, at least to me. Ok back to Sesame Street, do you know why Sesame Street is always filled with short scenes that at max only lasted for 3 minutes? Do you know why they used the techniques they did in teaching us how to pronounce? Like how the muppets like to pronounce the C, A, T separately and then at a faster speed until C,A,T is eventually pronounced as CAT. I am sure those who watched Sesame Streets as kids will definitely remember all these scenes. But by reading Tipping Point, you will know why and how these scenes came about and how much extensive researches have been done on the program. It is an eye-opener i would say.

Then the book also talked about stickiness. This is very important when it comes to the marketing world. How to make something stick in the mind of the consumers and stand out from all the clutters. Sometimes all it needs is just a little tweak in the product display. And i would say Gladwell has mastered in this because both his books thus far has that stickiness factor that not only makes it very difficult for one to put it down once picked up, but also the concept will stick in your mind that you will see the world differently. The book also talked about the 3 important people needed in order to start a tipping point, a Connector, a Maven or a Salesperson. When i read that chapter, the pictures of my friends will crossed my mind for each and every single category of people. Well for you to know what each this category means and do, go buy the book now and start enjoying the fun.
